Island Glassblowing Studio first opened in January of 2004.
It is a family-run buisness. Maestro Stephen Victor Zawistowski has worked meticulously designing and creating his own collection of glass art. Using as his inspiration the Cayman Islands' abundance of flora, its diverce and exotic marine life, and not forgetting the amazing colors of the Caribbean Sea.
Our furnace runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and the ceramic crucible inside contains a bath of liquid molton glass at a temperature of 2050 ²F.
The first step of creating a piece of art is to gather the glass on a steel rod from the furnace. The glass can then be shaped, sculpted or blown using wet newspaper, tongues, tweezers and scissors. All our designs are completely hand made using no molds, therefore each piece is unique.

Appreciating something that cannot be reproduced is what makes glass collectors of us all.
Stephen Victor Zawistowski - Stephen has been working with glass since 1973. He was trained in Blackpool, England by Venetian Maestro Franco Toffolo. Working with Franco Stephen learnt the intricate style of Venetian glass making, which Stephen has adapted to form his own style. In the past Stephen has worked in Bermuda for several years; while working there he was commissioned to make special pieces of art for H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth, George Bush Snr., John Major, and the Premier of Bermuda John Swan.
While working in the Cayman Islands Stephen was introduced to Dick Francis, best-selling author, subsequently another best-selling book (Shattered) was written using Stephen's knowledge and expertise in the art of glass making. Stephen's work has been shown in most of the major cities around the world, such as, New York, Paris, London, Madrid and Bermuda art Galleries.

Oliver Daniel Zawistowski - Oliver is Stephen's son, and has been working full time with his father since 2000, but has been tutoring under his father since 1995. Oliver plays a crucial part in the creativity of the production team, he also provides an influence on the intricate patterns. Oliver's work has been displayed in the Cayman Islands Art Festival in 2005. He is also an accomplished flameworker in his own right.
Carol Ann Zawistowski - Carol is the wife of Stephen, owner and manager of Island Glassblowing Studio. She has worked with Stephen since 1985 in different locations around the world. Carol currently runs the retail side of the studio in Grand Cayman, and when the need arrises Carol is more than capable of assisting the team. She also has a display of her own glass jewelry in the studio.
